Questions To Rabbi Mandel
Emotional Roler Coasters
Question: I am a Yid who has a very hard time finding himself. I have very strong feelings about myself; sometimes I think that I am headed in the right place (meaning that I am Shteiging at a decent healthy pace), and at other times I think I am headed for no good. I also have swings in my Chizuk levels. I believe all this comes from the fact that Hashem created me as an extremely emotional person. Do you have any Eitzos for me to sort of stabilize myself?
Answer: Accept it! Say out loud that I like being such a guy that has ups and downs! I enjoy stress! Even if you don’t mean it and don’t feel it, keep saying it, because then your problems will disappear. THE MAIN PROBLEM IS THAT YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE IN A CONSTANT BATTLE, SINCE YOU WANT SOMETHING ELSE, BUT INSTEAD YOU HAVE THIS.
“Acceptance” is called: קַבָּלַת הַיִסוּרִ ין and it is M’chaper on your Aveiros, which is very Chashuv. This is called Bitachon as well, since Bitachon means that you say: “It’s good”. By saying: הַכֹּל לְטוֹבָּה “It’s good”, you bring about extreme Yeshuos. The K’sav Sofer says that Yosef HaTzaddik’s success was by his constant affirming that everything is good.
