Moses was born in the Torah portion Shemot, and the first thing the Torah tells us about him, which sets up the background for the rest of his life (following the dictum, “everything follows the inception”) is that when his mother, Yocheved saw him, “She saw that he was good.”
Naturally, every mother loves her child, believes he is good and beautiful, and sees him as the best gift that God has given her. When the Torah goes out of its way to note that Yocheved, Moses’ mother, saw “that he was good,” this has special significance; there is a special “goodness” found in Moses that pertains specifically to his pivotal role as the Giver of the Torah and the Redeemer of Israel, “He is the first redeemer, and he is the final redeemer.”
