One Can Harm Himself With Words

The Mesilas Yesharim zt”l states that no man can harm a person as much as he can harm himself with his words. The proof to this is from our Parshah, as Hashem tells Klal Yisroel (14:28): “As I live,’ says Hashem, ‘if not as you have spoken in My ears, so will I do to you’.” This means that whatever one decrees with his own mouth is what Hashem will do to him.
