A Mezuzah at the UN

A Mezuzah at the UN

On the day before Israeli UN Ambassador Gilad Erdan concluded his term and returned to Eretz Yisrael, he affixed a distinct mezuzah at the entrance of Israel’s office at the UN: a mezuzah shaped like the Land of Israel.

Before reciting the blessing, Erdan said that he was fulfilling a promise he made to the head of the Shomron Regional Council that he would place a mezuzah shaped like Eretz Yisrael on Israel’s UN office. Erdan then recited the blessing, and the gathered crowd responded with a resounding Amen. The mezuzah was affixed with the help of shliach Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Noyman, and it will welcome Israel’s incoming Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon.

Ambassador Erdan had been outspoken against the UN and its handling of the war in Eretz Yisrael. In a video that he posted for The International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, he walks in the UN lobby and lashes at the UN for ignoring Israeli victims. There are displays honoring victims in all kinds of places such as Indonesia and Kenya, and a “Palestinian” woman killed in New Zealand, but not one mention of Jews killed in terror attacks in Eretz Yisrael.

In a recent talk with i24NEWS, he expressed his disgust with the “crooked and distorted behavior” of the UN, saying that the “UN should be closed and its building should be wiped off the face of the earth.” “To that extent?” the interviewer asked surprised. “Yes, to that extent,” Erdan replied. “This is the building I’ve come to every day for the past four years. This building may look beautiful from the outside, but it is crooked and distorted.”

Regarding his future, Erdan said he plans to remain active in the service of Jews in the Holy Land. “I know I have a mission,” he said. “I see myself in the future leading the Likud after Netanyahu.”
