Rav Mordechai Katzenelenbogen Shapira

Rav Mordechai Katzenellenbogen-Shapira was the son of Rav Yosef of Ostila (yahrzeit 18 Elul) and a descendant of the Megaleh Amukos and Rav Heschel of Cracow. He was named after his grandfather and the founder of the dynasty, Rav Mordechai of Neshchiz (yahrzeit 8 Nissan). His three brothers were Rav Pinchos of Ostila, Rav Baruch of Kastintin, and Rav Levi Yitzchok of Stephan.

Rav Mordechai’s maternal grandfather was Rav Yehuda Meir Shapira, Av Beis Din of Shpitevka, who traced his lineage through Rav Pinchos of Kretz, author of Imrei Pinchos, and Rav Avraham Abba Shapira, a descendant of the Megaleh Amukos.

He passed away on 7 Elul in the year 5637/ז"תרל. He left behind a son, Rav Avrohom Yehoshua, Av Beis Din of Tlust.
