Revelations from the Inside Out

HaKadosh Baruch Hu arranged Chodesh Tishrei so that we begin with pnimiyus and we end with the physical world, so that a person should reveal Hashem’s sovereignty over This World as well—through the wood that he uses for the sukkah, by abandoning the conveniences of home for the holy sukkah. Even when it’s cold and rainy, even when it’s warm, he says: I don’t care; I am with Hashem, I am going into Him.

We take the four minim, species that grow from the ground, and we don’t see the G-dliness in them—but we express our belief that the Ribbono shel Olam gives them life. Although they seem to be material objects, we see the G-dliness therein. We express our belief that although the species that “grows” (צומח) is lower than חי (animals), and certainly than the מדבר, the person who has the ability to talk—nevertheless, it is nurtured by the water that comes from an elevated place, and we reveal that everything is G-dliness! When we enter the העשיה, עולם the world of deed, and there we express Hashem’s Sovereignty, this is how we break the klipah of the nations of the world—because we proclaim that there is no world, only Hashem.
