Vort for Meal 13 Believing Is Greater than Seeing

Limuday Moshe | June 27, 2025

There is a tradition that the Ushpizin – Avraham, Yitzchok, Yaakov, Yosef, Moshe, Aharon, and Dovid – visit the succah during Succos. Each one comes on his designated day.

The Kotzker Rebbe was once told of another Rebbe who was reported to have seen the Ushpizin with his own eyes. The Kotzker was unimpressed. “I don’t see them myself, but I believe that they are there. And that is even greater than seeing them!”

“Seeing is believing” is a well-known idiom. But, in fact, believing is even greater than seeing. (Rabbi Ephraim Nisenbaum)
