Emunah is the Difference Between Jews and Gentiles

The Way of Emunah | January 20, 2026

Sefer Divrei Yisroel explains this pasuk by noting that Torah is eternal and constant (see Yosher Divrei Emes, Ois 32, in the name of the Besht). Thus, the word “mikneh” can be translated as “kinyan”, an acquisition of a possession in this world. Both Jews and non-Jews are engaged in business and acquiring possessions in this world, but there is a big difference between them. A Jew who engages in business does so with a heart full of emunah and bitachon in Hashem, whereas a non-Jew is simply working in order to acquire things for himself.

The pasuk is referencing this idea when speaking of the difference between the mikneh of Yisroel and the mikneh of Mitzrayim, and saying that this is a clear separation between the two.
