...You were chosen, (over others), by the Rebbe the nassi, to be “closer” to the nassi - because the demand is according to one’s means; As the Chazal state (Kesubos 67a): “In accordance with the camel is the burden”
You had the privilege that the Rebbe the nassi chose you, and you have been notified of this. Once you are aware of this, it is not optional anymore – you have no say in this matter, you only have the option to obey or to rebel against the Nassi haOlam.
When one confounds himself and others, then comes with complaints to Hashem why he doesn’t have everything he needs - he is then only fooling himself.
When you are responsible for the situation you are in - how can you come with such complaints to Hashem?
As the Rebbe Maharash explains in the beginning of Mayim Rabim 5636 (p. 2) the passuk (Mishlei 19:3) “foolishness of man perverts his ways, and his heart frets against Hashem” – you yourself have messed up your way, you’ve done it to yourself, and then you’re angry with Hashem?!
Moreover, it’s already after the Mishkan has been erected. Everything is prepared: Before you, there already was the Baal Shem Tov, the Alter Rebbe, and even the Previous Rebbe was also before you - with their avodah they have paved the way for mesirus nefesh; you only have to do what’s asked of you. Granted, if it would be required of you to start building the Mishkan, you might be able to answer
Granted, if it would be required of you to start building the Mishkan, you might be able to answer that you are incapable – however, it’s already the work of the Mishkan has been completed; the Mishkan is ready, we already have Hashem “dwelling among them” – within every single Jew, in everyone’s heart. All you have to do is open your heart! Just remove the obstacles and impediments from yourself.
The fact that you don’t oppose and don’t defy, is not sufficient, “sur me’ra” (turning away from evil) is not enough, there must also be “asei tov.” Even before the world was created there was “no evil” too. For negating evil alone, it would have not been necessary to create the world. The purpose of the creation was for asei tov – to do good.
The Rebbe’im explain that the etymology of the word “aseh” is “force,” “coerce.” This means that one has to force himself to do, although he doesn’t want to: When one does something that’s against his will, and he forces himself – that is called “doing.”
You have to know that Moshe has brought you closer from “amongst the b’nei Yisrael” – not from amongst goyim, chas veSholom – that has already happened at mount Sinai, when Hashem “chose us from all nations and tongues,” but the Rebbe has chosen you from among the Jewish people, so you have to put aside your “self”, and do what is demanded of you.
As for attaining higher spiritual status, indeed this will also come – but there has to be the “bringing closer” – not only when one is in a “good mood,” and has nothing better to do, then he will consider to do another Jew a favor; and then he will daven a half-hour longer - but he has to submit his “self” to that which is demanded of him, in totality.
