A large 15 foot menorah stands proudly in Gaza today, and will shine its light on the Chanukah holiday. The menorah was brought into Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip by a group of Chabad shluchim (emissaries) who serve in the IDF as reserve soldiers. The soldiers traveled deep into Gaza and erected the menorah.
The menorah is one of over a dozen menorahs which will be erected in Gaza over Chanukah, in a project coordinated by Tzach of Israel, led by Rabbi Yosef Aharonov. Tzach of Israel will also be distributing personal menorahs and donuts to the over 10,000 Israeli soldiers now being deployed in Gaza.
“A little light dispels much darkness,” shliach Rabbi Levi Mendelsohn of Tzach told COLlive.com. “We also plan to have volunteers light the large menorahs each night of Chanukah, bringing light to the darkest places.”
