ZOKEIF KEFUFIM: UPRIGHT LIVING

The spine is a wondrous machine made of 33 separate bones. These bones are not all connected, but rather spaced with cartilage in between to give us maximum flexibility. All too often, we take this great gift for granted.

Of all living creatures, only humans walk b’komah zekufah, in an upright posture. Even apes, who can stand straight, walk on all fours.

This is the dignity of a human over animals: to stand upright in the presence of Hashem.
