Practical Judaism Be Kind Even to Someone Who has Wronged You

Living Moshiach | December 10, 2025

In this week’s Torah portion, Yosef, now the ruler of Egypt, reveals himself to his brothers. Although they had sold him into slavery, he was kind to them and provided for their families! We are supposed to learn from him. As the Tanya says:

“...immediately when there arises from the heart to the brain...hatred, Heaven forbid, or some jealousy or anger or resentment and the like, one doesn’t accept them at all in one’s mind and will and on the contrary, the mind controls and rules over the spirit in one’s heart to do the actual opposite – to act with one’s fellow with...kindness and extra fondness...to tolerate...until the last extreme and not to get angry, Heaven forbid, and also not to pay him back like what he did, Heaven forbid, rather on the contrary, to give favors to the guilty like it says in the Zohar to learn from Yosef with his brothers.”

(See Tanya, end of chapter 12)
