5739-1978, during every Yud-Tes Kislev farbrengen the Rebbe would make a siyum — completing and expounding upon a tractate of the Talmud. This year the Rebbe explained that he was choosing tractate Kiddushin, which speaks about the laws of marriage, as he had celebrated the 50th anniversary of his and the Rebbetzin’s wedding several days earlier.

5750-1989, years after the Rebbe advocated for prisons to work towards rehabilitation for criminals, instead of just locking them up without the ability to be productive, Judge Jack B. Weinstein informed the Rebbe that he was going to meet the Federal Sentencing Commission to tell them the Rebbe’s views on the matter. The Rebbe gave his blessing, and told the judge to “support” his views and not to suffice with “reporting” them and to “tell them as your personal views also.”
