There is a Halacha that a Cohen Baal Mum shouldn’t say Bircas Cohanim (Shulchan Aruch) since people will stare at his Mum (deformity) and be distracted from hearing the Bracha (Mishna B’rura). We can suggest that this can also be a Remez: Don't advertise your Chesronos. People will be distracted and focus on your Chisaron and lose respect for you. And then the world will never be able to benefit from the goodness and Brachos that you can give them, since they think you are a bum.
After saying these Chidushei Torah, I was told that R’ Avigdor Miller Zatzal was very much involved in not advertising Chesronos. People who advertise their Chesronos think that they are saying the Emes, but really it's Sheker, and it is the good-old self-righteous Fruma Yetzer Hara.
Similarly, Baalei Lashon Hara are always justifying their actions: “It’s a Mitzva to put so and so in his place!” He is angry at the evil of the world, and feels the need to expose it “so people should know the truth”.
