בראשית פרק ג טז אֶל-הָאִשָה אָמַר הַרְ בָה אַרְ בֶה עִצְבוֹנֵךְ וְהֵרֹּנֵךְ בְעֶצֶב תֵלְדִ י בָנִים וְאֶל-אִישֵךְ תְּשׁוּקָתֵךְ וְהוּא יִמְשָל-בָךְ :
בראשית רבה פרך כ, ז : ואל אישך תשוקתך ארבע תשוקות הן אין תשוקתה של אשה אלא לאישה שנאמר ואל אישך תשוקתך אין תשוקתו של יצה"ר אלא על קין וחביריו שנאמר ואליך תשוקתו אין תשוקתן של גשמים אלא על הארץ שנאמר (תהלים סה) פקדת הארץ ותשוקקה ואין תשוקתו של הקב"ה אלא על ישראל שנאמר (שיר השירים ז) ועלי תשוקתו ד"א תשוקתו תשים אנו , ואפי לו שאנו תשים אנו מקוים לתשועתו של הקדוש ברוך הוא ומיחדים שמו בכל יום ד"א ואל אישך תשוקתך בשעה שהאשה יושבת על המשבר היא אומרת עוד איני נזקקת לבעלי מעתה והקב"ה אמר לה תשובי לתשוקתך תשובי לתשוקת אישך רבי ברכיה ורבי סימון בשם ר"ש בן יוחאי אמרו לפי שרפרפה בלבה לפיכך תביא קרבן מרופרף ב' תורים ב' בני יונה והוא ימשל בך אמר רבי יוסי הגלילי יכול ממשלה מכל צד ת"ל (דברים כד) לא יחבול רחים ורכב מעשה באשה אחת משל בית טברינוס שהיה נשואה ללסטים אחד והיה בעלה מצערה שמעו חכמים ובאו אצלה להוכיחו כיון שבאתה לפני חכמים הוציאה לפניהם מנורה של זהב ונר של חרס על גבה לקיים מה שנאמר ואל אישך תשוקתך:
Bereshis Rabbah: The word "תשוקה" (passion) appears four times in Tanach
- Bereshis 3,16 “To the woman He said, you will increase your anguish (or rearing children) and your (labor pains of) pregnancy. You will give birth to children. You will desire your husband but he will rule over you.”
- Bereshis 4,6 “(The Yetzer haRa) is longing (to entice you), but you can rule over it (if you want)”
- Tehillim 65,10 “You remember the earth and are passionate about it (bring rain).”
- Shir haShirim 7,11 “I am my Beloveds and to me is His passion.”
Yafeh Toar: The term "תשוקה" applies only to a matter which is the opposite of knowledge and intellect. A woman desires to be with a man, even though she becomes subordinate to her husband and childbirth involves pain. A person desires the Yetzer haRa even though in the long run no benefit will accrue. The Earth desires rain even though the result is mud. And HaShem desires the Jewish people even though they can not offer Him anything.
Rav Zeev Wolf: These four pairs function properly due to the joint collaboration of sets of two elements. Man and woman; Yetzer haRa and a rasha; earth and rain; HaShem and the Jews.
Panim Yafos: The Yetzer haRa is completely dedicated (passionate) to the directive of HaShem to entice people. We should take a lesson from this passion and add passion to overcome the bad influences and serve HaShem with complete devotion.
Rabbi Shimshon Hirsch: תשוקה is never an expression for hostile eagerness, but for the longing for a most valued possession, the most devoted longing for love! “I am my Beloveds and to me is His passion” (Shir haShirim 7,11). In Bereshis 3,16, this word certainly does not imply an external condition of war between husband and wife, that the wife is just longing to overcome her husband and that he as stronger would be the victor. Rather, the longing of a loving wife finds completion of her intimate self in devoting her life to the efforts and direction of her husband. And just ten verses later (when HaShem speaks to Kayin on behalf of all humans that follow him) His intention is surely not the opposite from the prior verse.
