So we come on simchas Torah, preparing to draw the experiences of Rosh Hashonoh, of Yom Kippur, of Aseres Yemei Teshuva and of the first days of Sukkos and making them an internal part of our lives for the coming year, and we realize that for this we need a huge amount of credit. But we have it. We have the ultimate platinum card, with no credit limit at all! Never mind the free flights or air miles or anything. Those are all the side shows to distract us from what’s truly important. Focus, rather, on what we want to acquire, and on making sure to use the credit card (that we only have available for a short time) to actually acquire it.
And while we’re at it, let’s not lose track of what our main desires are: Of course we all have wants and needs, in the areas of בני חיי ומזוני . And even more pronounced are our spiritual needs; - to be more successful in our learning and our davening, and to have a better feeling for Elokus.
But while we have the credit card, let’s not lose sight of our main need and our main goal. In the words of the midrash (which is quoted in maamorei chassidus in explanation of the concept of “ Tefilas ashir ”): " מדינה זו היא שלך והיא ,חריבה גזור עליה שתיבנה ". We say to the Al-mighty: “Eibishter, You have a property that is in ruins! Your world is in shambles, it is utter devastation. Not only is there no revelation of G-dliness there, but there is so much that appears to be the opposite. The world is filled with evil and strife and temptations.
It’s time to fix it up. Rebuild it!
What is the concern? It’s too expensive? The costs of renovating are too high? The building costs are too demanding?
No Problem! We have unlimited credit right now. You can put the entire amount on our card. Money is no object. The main thing is to rebuild these ruins, refill it with G-dliness and holiness, banish the darkness. Whatever the costs, we can handle it now; - just charge it!
