A Jewish Leader Is Totally Selfless

Bitachon Weekly | June 27, 2025

Moshe makes it sound like the Yidden are innocent, and Ahron caused the whole Chet HaEigel. And the Torah twice repeats: אֲשֶרַַּּ עָּשוַּּאֶתַּהָּעֵּגֶלַּאֲשֶרַּעָּשָּהַּא הֲרֹןַַַּּּלבַּלה “the Eigel that Ahron made”. Moshe and Ahron were a team, who together lead Klal Yisroel. A Jewish leader is totally selfless, and Moshe even said: מְחֵּנִיַּנָּאַּמִסִפְרְ ךַָּלבַּלב “Erase me from your Torah if the Jews don’t have a Kapara. Under the Mishkan were the silver feet which held up the Mishkan. They are at the dirty bottom, yet they are called: א דָּנִים Adanim (like Adon, master) and the Meforshim say that this is a true leader.

Not like: א לּוּפֵּיַּעֵּשָּו “Alufei” Eisav who were “aloof” and cold about their nation’s concerns. Like the royal beautiful and luxurious Taj Mahal in India, which right next door has starving poverty-stricken people. A true leader loves his flock dearly, and is literally Moser Nefesh for them. When Golyas HaPelishti challenged Klal Yisroel, you can see how Dovid HaMelech got excited. I counted 4 times how he describes what a chutzpa it is for Golyas to be: חֵּרֵּףַּמ ע רְ כותַּאֱלֹקִַּיםַּח יִיםַַּּש"אַּיזַּכו insult the army of Hashem.

You dare start up with Am Hashem? Look at the awe and respect that Dovid had for Klal Yisroel (just like a Rebbe has: וּמִת לְמִידֵּיַּיותֵּרַַּּ מִכוּלַָּּּןַַּּמכותַּיַּא,ַּתעניתַּזַּא) R' Gershon Liebman Zatzal had more Geshmak watching his Talmidim eat than eating himself. We are all: מ מְלֶכֶתַּכֹהֲנִים a nation of princes. (Rashi). We can all be a Bechina (type) of a leader. It depends on each individual. In a way, the Matzav in Eretz Yisroel is a Bracha, since it has caused all of Klal Yisroel to worry and always daven for the Klal. It raises a person into an Ish HaKlal. We should daven that Hashem should make us like true selfless leaders, and to care for Klal Yisroel more than ourselves.
