You Cannot Be a Kano'i Against a Group Unless You Love Them

We can suggest that the Torah elaborates on the closeness of those who were involved in Chet HaEigel to teach a lesson for all Kano'im. You can only be a Kano'i at a certain group if you love them like your closest; just that you are M'chuyav to go against them. There is a famous story of a Gadol B’yisroel who came out against a certain group in Klal Yisroel, and they say that first he cried for ½ an hour with pain that he had to do such a thing. You may not like certain types, but your own critical nature might be a worse problem. Break your Middos, and lie and say about the worst: “They are really good.”
