The Gemara states (Bava Metziah 59A): “Rav Chalbo said: One should always be careful to honor his wife because blessing is only found in a home because of a wife, as is stated: ‘And he benefited Avram for her sake.’ This is as Rava said to the people of Mechuzah: Honor your wives so that you may become wealthy.”
The Maharsha explains that this pasuk, which is speaking about how Pharaoh provided benefit to Avram for the sake of Sarah, seemingly should have said “and Pharaoh benefited Avram for her sake.” It seems to be missing the word “Pharaoh.” Therefore, the Gemara understands it to mean that Hashem provided benefit to Avram for her sake, which is a proof that blessing is found in the home in the merit of the woman of the house.
This concept is also found in the Medrash (Bereishis Rabbah 60:16): “As long as Sarah was alive, a cloud hung over the entrance to her tent. Once she died, the cloud dissipated. But once Rivkah came, the cloud returned. As long as Sarah was alive, the doors of the house of Avram were open to the multitudes. Once she died, this multitude ceased coming. Once Rivkah came, the multitude returned. As long as Sarah was alive, blessing was found in the dough. Once she died, this blessing ceased. Once Rivkah came, the blessing returned.”
