Practical Judaism → Circumcision: An Everlasting Covenant
In this week’s Torah portion, Avraham circumcises himself. Circumcision is an everlasting covenant between the Jew and G-d. It brings holiness permanently into the physical body. In the merit of this Mitzvah G-d made a covenant with Avraham about giving the Land of Israel to him and the Jewish People forever. Circumcision epitomizes making the physical body a home for G-d, and the Land of Israel epitomizes making one’s part of the world a home for G-d.
