Becoming Yerushalmi

Havineini | December 10, 2025

In truth, every Yid must strive to become a Yid of Yerushalayim. The term has such significance... we have sadly lost the concept of what it means to be a Yid rooted in “Yerushalayim.”

Far more than garb and style, or whether one has a tiny and quaint apartment... a Yerushalayim Yid has a different kind of heart! He has Yerushalayim in his neshamah! The Ribbono shel Olam asks all of us, “Where is your Yerushalayim? Why are you behaving like a chutz l’Aretz Yid?”

Sadly, when Klal Yisrael lost their hearts of Yerushalayim, they were also driven out of the physical city of Yerushalayim—because one cannot remain in Yerushalayim shel matah, Yerushalayim down below, with a chutz l’Aretz attitude. One must live like a Yid who has the Beis HaMikdash. This is what Hashem wants from us; this is what a true Yid looks like!
