The Exaltedness Overflowed

The Lakewood Mashgiach, Rav Nosson Wachtfogel zt”l, would say that a Yid must always—especially during the days of bein hametzarim—picture in his mind the Beis HaMikdash, the korbanos, and the city of Yerushalayim. We must place ourselves there and imagine it, so we will feel somewhat the great void.

When a person comes to a large gathering of thousands of people, and all of them are angry and bitter for whatever reason (perhaps they’re protesting something or other), and he sees anger and sadness wherever he looks, he will not suddenly become happy and upbeat, because a person is naturally affected by his surroundings.

What if he comes into a crowd of thousands of joyful and jubilant people? He will likewise automatically be drawn into their euphoria. Lag BaOmer in Meron is one good example of this. Wherever one looks, he sees joyful people who are uplifted and close to the Ribbono shel Olam. If he holds onto two such Yidden, he will automatically be drawn along with them.
