PARENTING POST

By Sarah Chana Radcliffe

Who is “in charge” of the kids in YOUR house - you or your spouse or both of you?

Your spouse is not 100% in charge of parenting decisions because YOU are also a parent. However, some spouses feel “invisible” or “powerless” in their parenting role. If YOU feel that way, then your children are also likely to see you that way and internalize the idea that “Men or Women (depending on your gender) are powerless.” This won’t be healthy for them in their own marriages down the line. Keep the impact of your model in mind as you step up to the plate. Either make yourself heard (respectfully, not abusively) or seek professional help to accomplish an improved distribution of power within your marriage.

You’re mad, you’re furious, you’re completely fed up! You want to give someone a piece of your mind......

Help yourself calm down faster by saying as little as possible when you are feeling really upset. Every extra word you say is like throwing a log on a burning fire, fueling your rage with more and more adrenalin. When you lose your temper, you also lose your power and your credibility. Stay sane: say less.
