The Reward For Temimus

The Way of Emunah | December 31, 2025

The Reward For Temimus:

The pasuk in Tehillim (41:13) states: “And for me, because of my innocence You shall support me, and stand me up before You forever.”

The Rema zt”l (Sefer Toras Haminchah, Parshas Netzavim) explains that Dovid Hamelech is telling us how he merited life both in this world and the world to come. He says that Hashem “supported him” with life in this world and “stood him up” with life in Olam Haba. He says that he merited both these lives “because of my his innocence” – because of his temimus.

The Rema goes on to explain the concept of temimus. He says that temimus is when a person does not rely on his own wisdom, strength, wealth or talents. Rather, he depends on Hashem at all times and trusts in Him. Furthermore, a tamim does not try to foresee the future through astrology or the like, as these are methods of the gentiles that have no real substance. A tamim relies on Hashem and unquestioningly follows Him. One who attempts to change the future on his own will not succeed, but one who trusts in Hashem with simplicity will find success.
