A Big Person Is Involved with the Needs of Others

A “Big” Person Is Involved with The Needs of Others

The Seforim HaKedoshim say that Moshe was chosen because he worried about Klal Yisroel’s Tzaros more than anyone else. Perhaps this is why Moshe was equal to the entire Klal Yisroel. R’ Galinsky Zatzal told me a story he witnessed with his own eyes. When the Novardokers were taken to the trans-Siberian railroad to go to Siberia, R’ Gershon Liebman went to the Russian authorities begging to go with them! They told him that he doesn’t qualify. They thought he was out of his mind, asking to go to the Gehinom of Siberia! R’ Galinsky saw R’ Gershon crying bitter tears that he couldn’t go with them. When R' Gershon learned Chumash, he took the stories of Moshe Rabeinu (who worried about the Tzaros of Klal Yisroel) seriously!

In the 1940’s, the only Kollel in the USA was in White Plains, NY, and it was falling apart. Many Gedolei Torah wouldn’t mind giving a respectable Shiur, but only R' Ahron Kotler Zatzal was willing to also knock on doors to support the Yeshiva. This is a true Gadol HaDor, who is selfless and lives for the Klal.

In Madregas HaAdam, the Alter Zatzal writes that Bnei Torah especially should feel an Achrayus for the Klal and be M'zakeh the Rabim. When R' Ahron Kreiser Zatzal met R' Gershon Liebman Zatzal, they were both crying together about all the Tzaros of Klal Yisroel. This was their main concern. I also witnessed an Adam Gadol who went to the Kever of R' Nosson Wachtfogel Zatzal, and all he was doing was crying over the Tzaros of Klal Yisroel.

This is a major difference between the “big” people and the “small” people. And this is why being involved in Zikkui HaRabbim brings you up to a totally different Madrega.

I want to be like Moshe Rabeinu!
