Every problem a person encounters is just another way of getting to know the Ribbono shel Olam and attain closeness to Him, thereby reaching a place in the relationship that was previously untapped.
This can be understood with the mashal of a Yid who has a good friend. They have spent much time together over the years, rejoiced together at simchos, worked together at the same place, and stood side by side in shul. But now they undertook a journey to mekomos hakedoshim together for a week, and they encountered dilemmas along the way, such as obtaining kosher food, etc.
When they finally return home, this yungerman may say, “I was close to my friend long before our trip, and I have seen him in many situations, but this trip brought out another level of appreciation for him. We found ourselves in completely different settings than ever before. I have always known him as an ehrliche person, but I never appreciated the extent of his yiras Shamayim. Over this journey, I witnessed his care and meticulousness in every aspect of avodas Hashem... from negel vasser to ensuring the kashrus of the food we ate. I have a whole new level of appreciation for him, and I feel so much closer to him, since I have gotten to know him on a far more intimate level.”
A Yid finds himself together with the Ribbono shel Olam in his life situations, but he hasn’t yet gotten to know the Ribbono shel Olam on a truly deep level, as much as he potentially could. For this reason, the Ribbono shel Olam sends new situations to him so he can attain closeness to Hashem from that new place, that area of his heart that has previously been untouched.
