Choose Your Pleasure

This is why simchah has always been a cornerstone of chassidus. The yetzer hara constantly works to suggest sources of pleasure—things that we don’t necessarily need, but he helps us imagine the pleasure that we will attain from those things. However, if a person is consumed with joy and gratitude on a constant basis, he will be happy. And if he’s happy, there’s no need for any other imagined pleasures.

We must all become people who thank constantly—because we never know when we will experience a vulnerable moment. Constant gratitude and thanks bring excitement—and excitement is the best insurance policy against the yetzer hara. We must battle and toil to see the good and to be thankful constantly.
