Lo Signov – V’Ahavtah L’Reacha Komocha

Rav Zushe once had 10 rubles, which he placed in a Chumash. He put the money in Parshas Yisro, by the page with the words “Lo Signov”. A thief saw him do this and took the money. He put five rubles by the page with the words “Va’havtah l’reacha komocha”, and took the rest for himself.

When Rav Zushe went to retrieve the money, he didn’t find it where he left it. He then found half of it where the thief had put it, and he said, “Oy! The Jewish people are so holy. Zushe wanted to keep all 10 rubles for himself, but this Yid only took half and left half for Zushe because of his love for his fellow Yid!”
