Regarding the future redemption the Talmud (Sanhedrin 98a) queries the Possuk (Yeshayohu 60:22) לָאֶלֶף הַקָטֹן יִהְיֶה וְהַצָעִיר לְגוֹי עָצוּם אֲנִי ה׳ בְעִתָהּ אֲחִישֶנָה “The smallest shall become a thousand and the least a mighty nation; I am Hashem, in its time I will hasten it.” “In its time,” indicates that there is a designated time for the redemption, whereas: “I will hasten it,” indicates that there is no set time for the redemption. The Talmud answers: If they merit redemption through repentance and good deeds, I will hasten the coming of the Moshiach. If they do not merit redemption, the coming of the Moshiach will be in its designated time.
