Fulfilling the Dream

The Way of Emunah | December 07, 2025

The Chida zt”l (Sefer Pnei Dovid) explains by quoting the statement of Chaszal (Brachos 55A): “A good dream is negated by joy.” This means that if one has a good dream which causes him to feel joy, the dream will not be fulfilled because its goodness has already been fulfilled through the joy. Therefore, Yaakov yelled at Yosef in order to lessen his joy, so that the dream could be fulfilled.

The pasuk continues to say that his father anticipated the matter, meaning that he expected the dream to be fulfilled because it was not negated by Yosef’s joy after he lessened it.
