Self-Respect Stops a Person from Sin
Notice how Yosef said to the wife of Potiphar: אֵין נוּ גָדוֹל בַּבַּיִת הַזֶה מִמֶּנִי (Vayeshev 39:9) – “There is nobody greater than me”. His self-respect stops him from Z’nus. We live in a gentile world, and it takes a lot of work to weed out-of-us the false Kavod and realize how vain and stupid and embarrassing it is to dress up and try to attract others, Rachana Litzlan. This is Bizayon, not Kavod!
The Ramban says that Shimon and Levi spoke instead of Yaakov: לִכְבוֹדוֹ to preserve his dignity since for such a disgraceful action it doesn’t: פַאס (it’s unbecoming) that Yaakov should talk about it at all. We see in general how important Kavod was by them. These were grandchildren of “Sara”, which is a Lashon of S’rara (nobility), and “Avraham” which is a Lashon of Romemus. Dignity and not being cheap is everything.
