Farbrengens
The main Yud-Tes Kislev farbrengen generally takes place in the evening between Yud-Tes Kislev and Chof Kislev. The reason for this is because the Alter Rebbe’s release took place in the afternoon of Yud-Tes Kislev, and his freedom was only complete three hours later, when he left the house of the misnaged.
However, the Rebbe encouraged farbrenging on the night of Yud-Tes Kislev as well.
- The Rebbe encouraged participating in (at least) three farbrengens.
- During the farbrengen, the famous niggun on the words Padah veshalom nafshi is sung.
- It is customary to eat buckwheat (shvartze kashe).
