The Neshamah: A Supercharged Engine

There are cars that can travel at incredible speeds. How is such a car fashioned? It is fitted with a powerful engine, and in this way it’s able to travel at great speeds. What does someone do with such a vehicle?

After all, he can’t drive in the city with such a car. He goes out to distant roads, and there he can speed to his heart’s desire.

HaKadosh Baruch Hu created each one of us with an engine that can propel us to incredible heights. This is obvious. Everyone who simply tries to begin serving Hashem with bittul and with teshuvah immediately feels this taste of closeness to Hashem, and he becomes higher than the malachim. However, if he turns the engine to the direction in which his guf wants to travel, the engine will navigate in that direction—and it won’t go slowly, but rather move at super speed downward, R”l.

HaKadosh Baruch Hu designed our neshamah in such a way that there is no “low speed” mode. It is always supercharged, and it is always traveling at high speed with high energy. Depending on which direction we channel our kochos, we will arrive at the destination with supersonic speed.
