Reb Shmarya Daskal of Massif

Marmarosh (p. 131) states that Reb Shmarya and his wife Shayna Rochel came to Massif [in the early 1800s] for unknown reasons. Reb Shmarya was a scholarly person and had a positive spiritual influence on the few residents there.

Reb Shmarya established a large family. He was a wise and skilled Jew, and numerous descendants were named after him. Many were klei kodesh, melamdim, and shochtim, and some became successful merchants. Reb Shmarya’s descendants scattered throughout Transylvania.
