Our Shortcomings Force Us to Become Baalei Bitachon

Bitachon Weekly | June 25, 2025

Did you ever watch a cow or a deer or goat standing? They all look shaky and unstable. When you’re “solid on your feet”, then you are Treife (like a donkey and a horse). Just like the Germans, Y'mach Sh'mam, who were the most stable and organized, M’sudar’dik (systematic) people! Look at Moshe Rabeinu, whose main job as a leader is speech, and he’s: כְבַד פֶּה וּכְבַד לָשׁוֹן וַ עֲרַל שְ פָתָיִם (speech impaired, in his mouth, tongue, and lips) i.e., all kinds of weaknesses in the most vital organ for a leader! And who raised him? Basya bas Paroh, who was an ugly princess with disgusting Tzora'as since she was born. (Chazal).

When Shlomo HaMelech married Bas Paroh (the daughter of Paroh), the Malach Gavriel stuck a long pole in the ocean and created Rome. (Gemara). Of all the 1000 wives of Shlomo, Bas Paroh was the worst, and she caused him to miss the morning services in the Bais Hamikdash. When a person is in a normal mode like a princess who is supposed to be beautiful, then the wickedness gets in.

But when she’s the opposite of what a princess should be, then she needs Hashem, and she is Zoche to raise Moshe Rabeinu; she ends up in the fourth highest spot in Gan Eden for women. We should be happy with all our shortcomings and instabilities, depressions, anxieties, bad Mazal, difficulties in Torah, Avoda, and Gemilus Chasadim; all this makes us like shaky Kosher animals, and we are forced to become Baalei Bitachon.
