We have two opposite types of birds in the same Passuk. We have a: חֲסִידָה “Chasida”, which means a bird that does Chesed, right next to a disgusting: עֲטַלֵּף blood-sucking parasite bat; both in the same Passuk. And having the name Chasida means that the very essence of this bird is to do Chesed; a real “giver” (what a Gutzkeit!). Yet, he is just as Treife as that low-life creature who bites and sucks blood from others, i.e., the worst “taker”.
A person can be the epitome of kindness, but in the world of truth he’s the worst of the worst. Like a parent who spoils a child, and thereby creates an “arrogant monster’ who thinks the whole world owes him everything, or to give Tzedaka for an antireligious cause. These Treife birds are actually symbols of their unique Middos, and we need to be unlike all of them.
