In a sweeping move, Jewish judges, a.k.a. Shoftim, have been appointed for every city in the freshly conquered Land of Israel, allowing for quick and fair judgements. The judges will be assisted by enforcers, a.k.a. Shotrim, who will ensure that the rulings of the court are obeyed. In the event that the regional courts are unsure of how to proceed, they will address their questions to the High Court in Jerusalem, a.k.a. Sanhedrin.
The need for this new judicial system was explained by TNS court reporter Dovid Dayan. “When we were traveling in the desert, no one was too far away, and a centralized system worked well. However, living spread out in the Holy Land, regional courts in every city are a must.”
