When we hear about these tremendous madreigos of the tzaddikim, many people may feel greatly distant from such concepts: One may ask, when did the tzaddikim arrive at such lofty levels? How much did they need to toil to attain these tremendous madreigos? How can it be that we—in our lowly state—feel that the Ribbono shel Olam takes pleasure in us and our avodah, whereas the tzaddikim feel more humble about themselves the higher they climb?
We must understand that, really, the feeling of תהיה לכל כעפר ונפשי lies hidden within each of us. However, when it is wrapped up in a body, it is difficult to sense that feeling. The tzaddikim—who have purified and elevated their guf—feel their inner humility.
We must all work to reveal our inner madreigos, and by connecting with tzaddikim, they are revealed with the power of the tzaddik.
