Remembering Shabbos and Its Holiness

Shabbos Parshas Zochor, “Mehn darf gedenkin” (we must remember - symbolize). As the Sefer Bnei Yissoschor quotes, just as we are instructed to remember what Amalek did to us and symbolizes in evil, to the contrary, to the good, we must fully observe the Holy day of Shabbos. From sunset on Erev Shabbos (Friday) until total darkness after Shabbos (Saturday) we refrain from all of the thirty-nine Melochos (works – acts) as instructed to us by our Chachomim (Rabbis – Sages), As Commanded In The Torah, “Thou shall observe the Holy Shabbos”.

How do we accomplish the “Zochor” – commemorating of the great day of Shabbos? The Baal Shem Tov ZY”A, said that all of the Tefillos – Prayers of the whole week are elevated to the upper world during the Tefilloh of Minchoh on Erev Shabbos, the last weekday Tefilloh of the week and Kabolas Shabbos – Maariv of Shabbos. Hence, the Baal Shem Tov was Misaken (ordered) that Kapitel Kuf Zein (chapter 107) of Tehillim (Psalms) be said before Minchoh on Erev Shabbos, to usher in the Shabbos with Hodo’oh and Teshuvoh (thanks and repentance).

With this approach, we can mention what is said by The Ariza”l ZY”A and by the Baal Sem Tov ZY”A. As when they were Mekabel Shabbos on the field the chayos (animals) would surround them and stand on two feet as humans. As in this great situation of Kedushoh (holiness) they acquired the return to their original greatness, as at the time of the six days of creation and the first Shabbos.
