The truth is that this yesod from the Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh is one of the most effective tools that can help extricate us from bad habits. In order for a person to leave behind negative habits, he must become addicted to good things. The rule is that it is impossible to disconnect ourselves from bad habits without connecting to good and positive habits.

We can see this in some people who have learned to think positively about others. They literally become overwhelmed when they think about how wonderful the children of the Ribbono shel Olam are. Every moment that they have is devoted to thinking how they can help another Yid. This was never easy for them in the beginning. But they have grown accustomed to thinking this way through persistent thought.

As we said, there are many ways to connect, and a Yid can choose any number of vehicles to begin filling his mind with thoughts of the Ribbono shel Olam, thereby fulfilling the mitzvah of והיו הדברים האלה על לבבך. This will lead him to true אהבת ה', as stated earlier in the pasuk.
