Tefillah Helps More Than Hishtadlus

The Way of Emunah | December 10, 2025

The Chazon Ish zt”l writes (Kobetz Igros, Chelek 2, 132): “At every occurrence, I accustomed myself to strengthen my emunah that nothing happens in this world by chance and everything is orchestrated by Hashem. I exerted myself with tefillah to remove bad decrees. Therefore, I look coldly at hishtadlus because, most of the time, the effectiveness of one’s own efforts are uncertain.”

It is further stated in Sefer Dinim V’hanhagos M’Maran Chazon Ish (page 124): “One must remember that one has no power to do anything. Rather, it is our actions we arouse His mercy... and if one davens and increases his tefillos... he accomplishes more than he could through hishtadlus.”
