Questions To Rabbi Mandel

Segulos and Bitachon

Question:
I have a question for the Rav, When someone does something as a Zechus, for example, he gives money to an organization that has people davening for them, or learning for them, and this organization publicizes countless stories of people who saw Yeshuos from them, then the people giving the money are relying on that Zechus to get their Yeshua. Let's say it's for 40 days, so for those 40 days, they will have an increase in their davening, because they feel there is what to "rely" on. Is there anything wrong with this? If not, is it the best way to have Bitachon? Or is davening and relying straight on Hashem better?

Answer: My Rebbi, R' Ozer Schwartz, told me that when you need a Yeshua, you do everything. הַכֵּה תַכֶּה מ כ ל מ קוֹם על פי ב"מ לא ב Do whatever you can. But real Bitachon, is doing nothing. However, if you need something big, you have Bitachon, and believe in it, i.e., believe that your Bitachon will work. However, since we are not always on the Madrega, along with Bitachon, you do the other stuff, and this way you will get things moving. If Hashem sees you care a lot and you're doing, that gives you credibility.

Indeed, Tzedaka and doing other things isn't Bitachon. But these things are also good. They may not be shpitz Bitachon, but they are plenty good.
