The Woman’s Role

Havineini | June 27, 2025

It is common for women, when they reach a certain stage, to begin thinking: Wait a minute? Our entire purpose on This World is to be servants? To prepare food, to wash clothes, to clean the home, to watch over the children... because our husbands don’t have the time since they’re busy with Torah and tefillah?! For this were created?!

The answer to this is multipronged. But if we want to say it briefly, it is this: When a woman does her work with the proper attitude and approach, her work becomes a vehicle for closeness to Hashem. Through her work, she attains deveikus in Hashem. When a person is engaged in deeds and actions, and he does those actions with the goal of fulfilling Hashem’s mission for him, and he thinks about HaKadosh Baruch Hu all the while, he becomes close to the Ribbono shel Olam through this. Similarly, a person who serves another person and enables him to sit and learn, every “Zevulon” who supports the lomdei Torah with the right attitude and thought, becomes himself elevated through this.

Thus, we are adding another level to the words of the Rambam. In addition to the fact that the entire creation is here to serve the Yid who serves Hashem, if every Yid who finds himself in the role of the Zevulun—the supporting role—does his part with the right attitude, then this support itself becomes avodas Hashem, and will merit השכינה השראת in his own right.
