And contrary to expectation the running is primarily due to the animal soul, as is explained in several places. That specifically as a result of this can there be an added light from within the darkness [itself], through the refinement of the lower realm itself. And therefore, this brings on the: וְאֵרַשְתִּיךְ לִּי לְעוֹלָם “And I will betroth you to Me forever”. This means that the Hamshocho thus caused shall be eternal.
Contrary to expectation: The intention is not just that the animal soul runs after the Divine soul.
The running: The drawing and yearning to get closer to G-dliness.
Animal soul: Because it is specifically the distance from G-dliness that awakens a great thirst and yearning to get closer.
Result of this: of the rectification and refinement of the animal soul.
Added light from within the darkness: in order for darkness to conceal light the darkness has to be stronger than the light. This means that within the darkness there is an even greater power than that which is in the light, and refining that darkness means to remove the light that is there within and elevate it. Thus you now have a stronger light, which is the added light from the darkness.
Therefore this: All the above-mentioned tasks which are being done specifically as a preparation for Matan Torah.
Hamshocha: And Divine revelation.
Shall be eternal: As it was at Matan Torah.
