Supporting the Poor

Supporting the Poor:

The pasuk in Tehillim states (41:2): “Praiseworthy is he who looks after the poor.’ Sefer Ohr Hachochmah quotes the Chozeh of Lublin as explaining that the word used in this pasuk is “dal” (with a “kamatz”), as opposed to “dol” (with a pasach”). This is a hint that we are referring to a poor man who keeps his mouth closed (“kamatz piv”) because he is too embarrassed to ask for help. The pasuk is seeing that one must look out for such a person and make sure to help him even if he doesn’t ask.
