A Yid once approached the Satmar Rebbe and asked for his guidance. In which area of avodas Hashem should he invest himself more intensely, he asked. In learning Torah or in helping other Yidden? The Rebbe placed his holy hand upon the Yid’s heart and said, “Wherever your heart pulls you.”
The Divrei Chaim of Sanz said similarly, “If you’re unable to learn Gemara at this moment, learn a Mishnah. If you can’t learn Mishnah, learn Chumash or say Tehillim. There are so many different ways of approaching Torah. If you haven’t found your path yet, don’t despair. You say that ‘it’s not working for you.’ This is impossible. It’s impossible that the Torah isn’t working for a person who’s properly connected to it. Rather, say, “I haven’t yet found the path in Torah that speaks to me.”
