The name Korach means bald. Baldness means potential growth (hair) that isn't present. The part of the body that never has hair in the first place isn't called Korach (bald), only an area of potential or past growth. When a person complains that he wants to grow more in Avodas Hashem, if it isn't appropriate, (like by the story of Korach) then it’s just the opposite of growth; it's potential growth that is being lost, i.e., you became bald, and you lost your growth abilities (your hair is gone).
Korach was ambitious in Avodas Hashem, and this caused Machlokes which makes everything boomerang and sink into the ground. Sinking in the ground also symbolizes the opposite of growth and going upwards; you're going downwards, and in the worst way. You're a total Yerida (decline) instead of Aliya, Chas V'shalom, and total self-destruction. Instead of building, you're destroying.
