The Shechinah is Called a “Mother”:
A group of tzadikim were once sitting with the Magid of Trisk and they asked him why the Zohar Hakadosh refers to the Shechinah as “aim” (mother). He said to them, “You tell me!”
They said, “We want you to tell us!”
He said, “When a child gets dirty, its father usually hands it over to the mother to wash it. Once it is clean, the father takes it back and hugs and kisses it. A mother is not like that. She will hug and kiss a child even it is dirty.
“So too, the Shechinah is with us even when we are impure. It kisses and hugs Klal Yisroel even when we are dirty. Therefore, it is like a mother.”
