him and said, “Get out of here! If you don’t I will hit you with my cane!”
He lifted his cane and said, “Just like this stick will never grow fruit, you can never do teshuva!”
The man lay down by the Rebbe’s door and stayed there all night, crying copiously. The next morning, the Rov saw that his stick had miraculously grown fruit. He then told the man to come in. He greeted him with a smile and gave him a plan for how he could do teshuva.
The Rebbe of Rebbes:
The Belzer Rov zy”a said, “Rav Elimelech of Lizhensk zy”a was the Rebbe of all Rebbes in Galicia, the Magid of Chernobyl zy”a was the Rebbe of all Rebbes in Russia, and the Trisker Magid zy”a was Rebbe of all Rebbes in Poland.”
Imprisoned:
The Magid of Chernobyl zy”a once went with his son, the Magid of Trisk zy”a, to visit Rav Yisroel of Ruzhin zy”a after he was released from prison. While they were sitting together, the Trisker Magid was staring at the Ruzhiner Rebbe. When they left, his father asked him, “Why were you looking at the Rebbe like that? Are you jealous of him that he got to go to prison? I could arrange that for you as well.”
And so it was. A short time later, the Trisker Magid was arrested.
