Eat Heartily and Enjoy, But with Restrictions and Boundaries

Bitachon Weekly | June 25, 2025

This Parsha is loaded with: אַוַּת נַפְשְׁ ךָ תֹאכַל (eat with all the desire of your heart, i.e.,) the concept of eating heartily and with Simcha. A Jew is a super happy person, and perhaps this is why exactly this Parsha speaks about dietary restrictions. When the Mishna speaks about the unusually happy Simchas Bais HaSho'eva, first it speaks about making a Mechitzah and having an Ezras Nashim (separate women’s section).

Jews are super happy, but Simcha needs control, or else it’s like Yishmael who was: מְצַחֵּק (Bereishis 21:9) playing inappropriately, or by the Eigel where is says that they were: מְצַחֵּק (Shemos 32:6) enjoying themselves inappropriately.
